Mount Carmel Academy won a 2018 Innovation in Catholic Education Award for Technology Integration from Today's Catholic Teacher magazine! The national award was announced at the NCEA (National Catholic Educational Association) Conference & Expo on April 4 in Cincinnati, OH. Sister Camille Anne, Ms. Simno, Ms. Cheramie, and Mr. Philabaum were presented with the award and a check for $1,000.
The award is for an interdisciplinary project among the 3D Animation, Acting, and Creative Writing classes.
Creative Writing students and 3D Animation students brainstorm character concepts. Working together, they choose characters and discuss plot, perspective, and personality. The 3D Animation students use Tinkercad to create a 3D model and then print their characters on the Makerbot Replicators. The writers receive the 3D models and use them as inspiration for crafting their screenplays. The animators create character puppets and backgrounds in Adobe Creative Cloud software and the voice actors use Character Animator to record voices and facial expressions. The students work together to critique each element and offer feedback. The end result of this creative collaboration is a series of animated short films.
